Most of us in the IT sector need a file compression tool to shrink and open large files. Please see the following steps to use “RAR” in an ubuntu command line scenario
- Open a terminal window and type in:
sudo apt-get install rar
sudo ln -fs /usr/bin/rar /usr/bin/unrar
- Go to the Archive Manager in the Gnome menu under Applications -> Accessories
- Install Dapper package in order to open the files with the rar extensions.
After installation you will see a choice to open and extract the file to a folder of your choice.
