You want to install OS on your computer, but you don’t have any CD or DVD to burn into a bootable disk. Don’t worry you can use your USB Stick as your bootable media and How to make a bootable USB on Linux ?, to make your USB bootable just follow this tutorial.
In this tutorial we are using UNetbootin, first download UNetbootin http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/, then select your operating system, because this tutorial is for Linux, so i choose Linux Version, then save it on a directory.
Open your terminal, change your active directory to unetbootin directory, then type the command below to change user permission to execute the file :
$ chmod +x unetbootin-linux-xxx
*xxx is your unetbootin version
Now open your unetbootin, type on the terminal
$ sudo ./unetbootin-linux-xxx
Enter your root password, then unetbootin window will show up.
In this step you can choose 2 options :
1. Select Linux Distribution you want to install on Distribution and unetbootin will download the distribution automatically
2. Or by disk image you’ve been downloaded.
I’ll select disk image because i already have disk image, i’ll use my archlinux disk image. To select your disk image just click … or browse button.
After you click browse button, find your disk image, then click Open.
Select your media type, because we use USB stick, so select Type to USB Drive and Drive is your Device, mine was /dev/sdd1 (yours maybe different). To check what is your device mount point type this on terminal :
$ df -h
Then find what is your USB Stick mount point.
After everything setup, just click OK, to copy your image to your USB Stick.
Setup is done, then you can restart your computer and set your first boot priority to your USB Stick, and viola your USB become bootable !.
