Wine is one of the most active developments in open source, Wine has many improvements lately and support for more games and applications. Recently Wine development team has been released Wine 1.7.40 with various bug fixes and improvements. So whats new in this Wine Latest Released ?

How to Install/Upgrade Wine 1.7.40

Easiest way to install/upgrade Wine to the latest version is through the PPAs, If you wish to Upgrade your Wine, first uninstall the older version with this command :

$ sudo apt-get remove --purge wine

and Add the latest repository to install wine :

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa

$ sudo apt-get update

$ sudo apt-get install wine1.7 winetricks

Now you can check your wine version using this command :

$ wine --version
