There is one common problem after Ubuntu users installing or upgrading their Ubuntu and that is no sound problem, there are many reasons why Ubuntu have no sound at all. In this post I will try to list some solution to the no sound problem on Ubuntu.
This following solution should work on Other released of Ubuntu and Distribution based on Ubuntu.
Check the Volume
The first thing you need to check is the volume settings, go to the top menu and click the volume icon, then click Sound Settings..
Now on the Sound Settings window, check output volume its muted or not, if yes just uncheck mute.
Check Alsa Mixer
Second thing you must check is the sound driver. PulseAudio controls underlying ALSA-level volume controls. To change ALSA volume you must open your terminal and type “alsamixer” and press enter key.
After that change the settings, to change volume settings do the following:
1. Select your sound card by using F6 and select by pressing F5.
2. Move to the volume you want to increase by pressing left and right arrow keys.
3. Increase volume with up arrow key.
4. Toggle mute by pressing M key.
5. Exit from alsamixer by pressing Esc key.
Reinstall Alsa and Pulse Audio
Last thing is try to reinstall Alsa and Pulse Audio, to do this open your terminal and type the following command:
$ sudo apt-get remove --purge alsa-base pulseaudio
and install it again:
$ sudo apt-get install alsa-base pulseaudio
Then reload alsa:
$ sudo alsa force-reload
