Android 7.1 Nougat announced by Google for nexus and pixels

android-7-1-nougatGoogle has recently announced via its blog  the arrival of Android 7.1 Nougat, also for Nexus devices. It is, however, a long-awaited update as limited as many features will be exclusive only for Pixel devices.

The new version of the Android operating system will be released as a developer preview and this is definitely a story that makes us happy all owners of compatible devices.

On the contrary, what holds in check the enthusiasm is the fact that Android 7.1 Nougat will not be so full of news as expected a little ‘time ago. On normal the minor update devices offer only small optimizations, bug fixes and a few interesting new features.

Then all the fun will be reserved for future owners of the new Google smartphones and Pixels Pixels XL. For these devices, in fact, the innovations introduced by Android 7.1 Nougat  will be really a lot. It starts from the new Google Assistant , passing to unlimited storage for photos and videos on Google photo, the new hardware acceleration for image processing with HDR + and the new pixel camera. This just to mention some of Pixel interesting exclusives that we would have liked to have also on all other devices will receive the update.

Just for the other devices the new features that are put more emphasis are the new night mode with a filter for the light blue, improvements as regards the performance and special touch gesture for the fingerprint sensor.

The Mountain View company has held especially to warn developers of the imminent release of the new update.

We think that this was the solution adopted by Google so that all developers can adapt their applications in time for the release of new smartphones and Google Pixels Pixels XL.

The update in the form of developer preview (for developers) should be available initially only for Huawei Nexus 6P, Google Pixel C and LG Nexus 5X.

The official update should instead be released on all major smartphones supported.

What then will happen?

It ‘easy to understand the direction taken by Google in recent times.

First forget the times when Nexus devices were the first smartphone to receive the official update.Nexus devices will continue to be updated on a regular basis, but priority will be given, no doubt, to the new Google Pixels and Pixels XL.

Secondly, we expect, in subsequent updates to Android 7.1 Nougat, an exclusive for certain Pixel smartphone and, if we were to be correct, this would mean that even with a constantly updated device – if this would not be a Pixel – we still missing features compared to the smartphones with the Google brand.
